With approval from the Council, Caitlin Tribble has been hired as our part-time Youth Ministry Intern. Caitlin has been teaching our Sunday morning Youth Church School Class, which now has a substantial following of young people in the Middle School through mid High School age group. Building on that active support and participation, we’ve begun a new Thursday evening youth fellowship group. Our first meeting, held on June 23, had a small but enthusiastic group of participants. After prayer and a good chicken dinner from Publix, Caitlin and the young people carted over to the Roser Food Pantry the massive collection of groceries donated by children in Vacation Bible School the prior week. Pam Leckie was waiting over there to show the youth around the Food Pantry and tell them about the process by which we distribute groceries to Island families in need. After careful and thorough instruction by Pam, the young people checked the expiration dates of groceries, marked out their UPC barcodes, and shelved the food by category and expiration date. Through Pam’s organizational skill and the hard work of Caitlin and the youth, everything was carted, sorted, and shelved in just over an hour. Many thanks to all involved: donors, leaders, and workers! |
